This comedic film is an interesting addition to film, capturing the horrors and the grip our minds may have on our brains. It shows what succumbing to the mind looks like.

Stairs follows Betsy Brown (Ally) as she finds herself addicted to throwing herself down the stairs. Recently engaged, they plan to take photos where they got engaged. In the days leading up to the due date, Ally falls down the stairs, and from there it goes downhill. Literally. She finds herself consumed, watching videos of people falling and going as far as to throw herself down the stairs as well.

The film manages to be both horrific and hilarious, leaving viewers caught between laughter and discomfort. There is a constant wondering why anyone would become so obsessed with throwing themselves down a flight of stairs, yet the film’s commitment to the absurd makes it strangely compelling. The central fixation is as eerie as it is ridiculous.

The sound design complements the film beautifully, leaning into horror. The sound creates an eerie atmosphere, mostly when Ally is stuck in her head and considering throwing herself down flights of stairs. These unsettling sounds heighten the tension and make her obsession feel increasingly disturbing.

Betsey Brown played her role beautifully, delivering an intense performance. Portraying her obsession and pain with excellence that pulls viewers in. Overall, this film is horrific; it shows what it’s like when control over the mind fails.
