Comedy often risks being hit‑or‑miss, but Little Brother finds its stride
In this comedic film, Little Brother, the exploration of family isn’t always based on blood relations only. Receiving emails from his supposedly older brother, Marcus Pinchrl (Eric Andre), sneaks out of the psych ward to visit Rudd (John Cena). The email is a cry for help, as he puts it. Rudd and Deirdre (Michelle Monaghan) now have a new challenge in their life. With the pressure from Cena’s debut as a contestant in an unscripted reality show, what could go wrong?
Matt Spicer brought a balance of nostalgic old films full of chaos with a modern punch. In his interview, he mentions that he draws inspiration from classic films like *What About Bob?* and *Tommy Boy.* The stark contrast between Rudd and Marcus brought juxtaposing humor. John Cena’s planned-out life and Eric Andre’s chaotic life couldn’t be more different. However, apart from its comedic sentimentality, it creates space for deep emotional depth. Together with his co-writers Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, they brought the film to life with interesting dialogues and ludicrous visuals.
Little Brother explores family dynamics and birth order personalities.
A chaotic yet heartfelt comedy that redefines family bonds
