Perfect October story. A book that feels like it should be accompanied by a cup of warm liquid and a few hours to spare.
In the midst of running away from her engagement, she finds herself in Honey Haven. The little town may be as sweet as the name. Lacey finds herself in The Hot Chocolate Hotel. With a missing car and no way to pay for the accommodation, she volunteers to help the understaffed hotel owned by Scott.
The romance between Lacey and Scott was well explored. From their attraction to each other and their hesitance to address it due to their experiences, this book offers an exemplary view of reciprocal attachments. Having read the previous book, seeing the past characters in a new light made it interesting.
Ashcroft’s authentic characterization happens to be her strength. Writing narratives that people can closely relate to. In this case, Lacey wishes to break from her controlled life. This Grumpy x Sunshine book grabs readers’ attention with its warmth and entertaining characters. Having different characters creates an array of personalities, and some complement the narrative with their humorous tendencies. Set in a Scottish village, Christmas makes the book all the sweeter.
Ashcroft’s writing is direct and warm, inviting a style that complements the novel’s cozy atmosphere. At the heart of the novel, it deeply explores belonging and the importance of a healthy, supportive community. Similar to the first book in the Honey Haven series, The Candy Apple Cafe, they deeply show the healing influence of a close-knit community.
Although the plot feels predictable and follows familiar genre conventions, it remains engaging through its well-paced nature. I highly recommend it for its cozy setting and its emotional exploration. With this addition, the Honey Haven series remains a charming and heartwarming contribution to the cozy romance genre.
