Little High:

Director: Allan Bosire

Writers: Allan Bosire and Saumu Kombo

Cast: Fridah Mumbe, Bilha Muthui, Ikiara Mugambi, Dominic Musyoka

Little High follows two heartbroken best friends. In their pursuit of weed, they accidentally knock out a dealer. As they drive to Ngong Hills, they run into a policeman, creating the possibility for things to escalate even further than they already had. Yet through it all, they stick together.

Zuri (Bilha) and Ciku (Fridah) carry this film, embodying their characters and making the story feel real. The combination of a bold friend and a scared one is a classic duo, and they execute it so well. This comedic crime drama holds viewers’ attention with its unpredictability. An example is the TikTok cop, which got a good laugh out of me. The dialogue was hilarious. My favourite was, “Dear God si you know our hearts si unajua mimi ni Zuri mzuri,” which translates to, “Dear God, you know our hearts; you know I am Zuri, a good person.” Basically, the comedy lands every time, and I’m here for it.

The film uses frequent close-ups on the protagonists’ faces, allowing every emotion to register. The color palette creates a cinematic feel. The blue contrasts beautifully with the car’s yellow. The cinematography enhances the film’s visuals, giving it a beautiful aesthetic quality.

Overall, this short film explores the dynamics of healthy female friendships. Albeit in a dark comedic manner, Zuri and Ciku support each other despite the chaos, stepping up where the other falls short.
